G6TVJ Home Brew 40M SSB Exciter

A home-brew 40M SSB exciter primarily built to reach a station in South Wales from the West Country. Straight forward technology is used using a simple parallel loaded frequency synthesizer. The exciter design currently covers 7.077-7.192 MHz due to frequency programming limitations and VCO tuning range. Producing around 20mW drive, the exciter feeds a 10W driver amplifier and finally a twin valve linear amplifier. Final output is 100W PEP enough to secure contacts around the UK.

The exciter incorporates a nixie tube display driven from the frequency selection switches. Code conversion is necessary to convert from hexidecimal frequency selection to the binary coded decimal drive to interface with Nixie tube driver ICs.
